Frequently Asked Questions
Q: HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?
The GentleLASE System, a revolutionary, long-pulse, high-energy alexandrite laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed to heat when it detects pigment in the hair shaft, and destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The skin is additionally protected during a laser treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin, cooling the upper layers and maximizing comfort to the individual being treated.
Q: WHAT DOES A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT CONSIST OF?
Safety eyewear is worn to protect the laser technician's and client's eyes from the laser during a treatment. A small handpiece touches the skin and delivers the laser light. A cooling spray is also felt with each laser pulse (which cools and protects the skin). Most clients experience minimal discomfort at the treatment site because of this Dynamic Cooling Device. Also, the energy level and/or cooling spray level can be adjusted to provide an effective, yet comfortable treatment. A treatment can take from five minutes to an hour depending upon the size of the treatment area, and the number of areas to be treated in a particular visit.
Q: IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PERMANENT?
The FDA has stated that our laser is effective for "permanent hair reduction". Laser hair removal effectively eliminates most of the hair with deep pigment, and hair that is in an active growth phase. Blonde or red hair, and other hair that is nearly colorless will not be heated enough by the laser to destroy the follicle. Your appointments are scheduled in a way that target hair follicles while they are in an active growth cycle to maximize your results.
Q: HOW MANY LASER TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
To remove the unwanted hair, you will most likely need a least 6-8 treatments. This is because hair grows in cycles, and only the follicles that are in an active growth stage at the time of the treatment are eliminated. When the next stage of hair becomes active (about 4-6 weeks later), you will come back to zap those hairs while they are in the active growth stage. Sometimes it takes up to 8 treatments to get most of the hair, depending on your personal hair growth characteristics. Many factors such as hormones, age, ethnicity, weight, metabolism, and medication all influence the body's hair growth. So, because each person's skin and hair are different, results may differ from person to person. Because of this, if you need more than 8 treatments to get rid of your hair, a discount will be applied towards additional treatments for that body area.
Q: DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?
You won't fall asleep in the treatment chair but you will not be in pain. The laser has a built-in anesthetic spray or cool stream of air that cools the skin before the laser fires to ensure maximum comfort.
Q: THERE ARE MANY OFFICES IN SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS OFFERING LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS. WHY SHOULD I COME TO LYNNE'S PLACE?
Besides the convenience of our location, Lynne's Place offers very competitive prices for the greater Fall River area and Providence, Rhode Island market. Lynne Reilly is also extremely qualified and experienced as she is a Certified Laser Specialist and a Registered Aesthetician , and has been a Registered Electrologist for over 14 years. The laser used in Ms. Reilly's practice is FDA approved and Dr. Joel Harrison is her Medical Director. All treatments are performed in a beautiful setting which is both comfortable and private.
Q: WHAT OTHER METHODS OF PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL ARE AVAILABLE?
Electrology is a proven permanent method for hair removal and is also conducted at Lynne's Place. It is a hair-by-hair removal procedure that requires a needle to be inserted into each hair follicle. The needle emits electricity to disable the hair. Electrology reguires regular treatments for several years. With the laser, a much larger area in a much shorter time period (6 -8 months) can be treated. Because some individuals have a mixture of dark and white hairs, electrolysis is performed to remove the white hairs first, and then the laser treatment is performed to remove the remaining dark hairs.
